Chapter 11

I had been going to Crestwood long enough now to know that when shit hit the fan and that more of it was coming. But I had no idea from what direction. Hailey’s crew had decided to make it their mission to make my life a living hell out of my already pretty fucked up life. I guessed it was because Kieran had left with me after the party, aligning himself with me, albeit momentarily. I kind of cursed myself for doing that, now, since the boys had decided to hang back and sometimes join in on the bullying, as well.

They weren’t to be trusted and I knew that now. I also found out a critical piece of information that I didn’t know before; they were too afraid to be nice to me in public. Now I knew why—they felt like their fathers were watching their every move.

One morning in the middle of November, I walked into the school a bit late. The bus had gotten a flat tire on the way from Ridgewood, and I’d had to hustle up the hill while the bell rang out ahead. When I entered, I was sweaty and wild-looking, my hair all frizzy.

The minute I entered, one of Hailey’s friends, the long-legged redhead Emma Sheridan, sauntered toward me, knocking all my books out of my arms. I scrambled to pick them up while other students stood around me, laughing. Then, another of Hailey’s friends, Katlyn, trampled up, reached for my skirt, and unzipped it all the way down the crack of my ass. I was wearing skimpy underwear beneath, and both my cheeks poured out into the air. Everyone stopped in their tracks to stare and laugh.

“What do you want from us, Ridgewood? Do you want us to throw wads of cash at you?” Sasha Kosh called out as she smiled and looked around at everyone like she was so damn funny.

“We wouldn’t waste our money on such a low-grade prostitute from Ridgewood,” her boyfriend, Timothy, said. “Jesus. We wouldn’t stoop that fucking low. You know what they have over there.”

“If she’s really a Blair, then why didn’t Headmaster Blair brand her on the ass?” someone else shouted—a kid named Ryan, who didn’t have anything to do with Hailey, really. The insult was pegged toward both of us.

At this, the entire hallway went silent. I reared back, trying to quickly fix my skirt, and fix my hair, while Hailey parted the audience like Moses parting the Red Sea. She marched directly up to Ryan, her eyes electric green with anger.

“What did you just fucking say, Ryan?” She growled at him. Her hand rested on a hip she had popped out. She was at least an inch taller than him, thanks to her Gucci heels.

Ryan didn’t seem willing to back down and you could feel the air shift. It felt like whatever hierarchy had always been in place was gone now. Whatever status Hailey held was no longer there.

“Come on, Hailey. I’ve seen that ass of yours,” Ryan shot out.
